Ragnar Klavan to Liverpool: Defender eases Liverpool’s centre back crisis with £3.5million move from Augsburg
Experienced three-time Estonian player of the year arrives at Anfield following the Reds' latest batch of defensive injuries
ESTONIA skipper Ragnar Klavan has eased Liverpool’s centre back crisis with a £3.5million move to Anfield.
Kop boss Jurgen Klopp has been hunting defensive back-up after Achilles injuries ruled Mamadou Sakho and Joe Gomez out of the start of the season.
He has also let Martin Skrtel and Kolo Toure leave the club.
Now Klavan, 30, will arrive as cover from Augsburg.
The left-sided central defender is a three-time Estonian player of the year and has won 108 caps for his country.
Everton inquired about Klavan a year ago when his agent confirmed just what it would mean for the defender to play in the Premier League.
Said Maikel Stevens: "You must also know that it is his dream to transfer to the Premier League."
Liverpool won their third pre-season game as Danny Ings and promising 16-year-old Ben Woodburn scored in the 2-0 win at Wigan.
It means the Reds are unbeaten in three friendlies to date.
Former Burnley man Ings also scored in the 5-0 demolition of Fleetwood but boss Klopp insists he must be monitored carefully as he continues his comeback from a cruciate ligament injury.
