SWANSEA CITY are ready to enter a tug-of-war with Stoke for their former midfielder Joe Allen.

Chairman Huw Jenkins has confirmed that the Welsh club are interested in re-signing the Liverpool player after Stoke City agreed to pay £13million for him this week.

Allen impressed for Liverpool in the final throes of the last season and was highly influential in helping Wales reach the semi-finals of Euro 2016.
But it seems Jurgen Klopp is not a big admirer and that he is happy to let Allen leave Anfield.
Now Jenkins has admitted Swansea would like to take him back to the Liberty Stadium.

He said: “Joe is one of our own players and if at all possible we would probably make that signing.

“We discussed it with Liverpool a few weeks back.

“Stoke have made an offer. The player will decided where he wants to go. Liverpool are asking a fair fee for the fact he has one year left on his contract but they are entitled to.”

Liverpool signed Allen from Swansea in 2012 as Brendan Rodgers – who had just been appointed Anfield boss after one season in the Premier League with the Swans – signed up his former player.

However, the Welshman struggled to win over the supporters who accused him of insipid, sterile play laced with little attacking forethought.

He looked to have discovered the killer touch under Klopp but it seems to have come too late to save his Anfield career.
