Manchester City transfer news: £45m Leroy Sane to join Pep Guardiola as he tells Schalke pals he’s off
Etihad boss set to complete deal this week as he smashes through the £100m transfer fee barrier
LEROY SANE has told his club: I’m off to Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola is set to complete the signing of the Schalke winger THIS WEEK in a £45million mega deal.
The City boss made Sane and Everton ace John Stones his priorities after landing Nolito from Celta Vigo.
These deals will see City smash the £100m barrier this summer as Guardiola reshapes the squad he inherited.
Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel has revealed that Sane, 20, told him he wants to move during showdown talks last week.
He said: “Leroy told me on Wednesday in an interview again he has requested to change clubs.”
City are set to pay £31.25m in instalments for the Germany winger with the rest in add-ons.
It is understood that the Etihad club have been waiting until August 1 to kick-start their summer business.
Sane has spent his entire brief professional career in Gelsenkirchen where he has also earned four caps for Germany.
Bayern Munich and Real Madrid were also understood to have been interested in the exciting youngster who is the son of former Sengalese star Souleyman Sane.
Sane first caught the eye around Europe when he scored on his Champions League debut in a 4-3 last-16 win at Real Madrid in 2014-15 — only for Real to sneak through 5-4 on aggregate.
Sane then found the net on his first league start four days later.
He prefers to play on the left but will add further competition alongside David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling, Jesus Navas and Samir Nasri.
While he was Bayern boss last term, Guardiola said: “Leroy is a huge talent. I can only congratulate Germany on a talent like him.”
Meanwhile, Everton assistant Erwin Koeman has backed Stones to put City’s interest in him to one side.
