Jose Mourinho confirms Bastian Schweinsteiger will leave Manchester United
Old Trafford boss threatened with jail over treatment of German star says he must go
JOSE MOURINHO made it clear there is no way back for Bastian Schweinsteiger at Manchester United.
The Special One's treatment of the German legend has been slammed by his former club Bayern Munich and the world players union, who said he should face jail.
Schweini has been told to train with the Under-23s at Carrington as he will not in Mourinho's first team group.
And the new Old Trafford chief said he has just left one space open - and that will be filled by a new signing, namely Paul Pogba.
Talking about the midfielder ex-boss Louis van Gaal signed on a three-year contract last July, Mourinho said: "What is happening is happening in every club in the world, which is the manager decides his squad.
"I normally like to work with 20 players plus the three goalkeepers which is what I do for 15 years, because we have so many players.
"But at the same time we also have so many competitions and especially the Europa League is a competition that changes a lot of the season.
"You can play 15 matches, you play on the Thursday, you have a big risk, travel a lot.
“Normally you are going to play the Premier League on the Sunday so I made the decision to be with 23 players plus three goalkeepers which I think is still a lot and I had to make my decisions."

And Mourinho added that his players are starting to come round to his tactics after the stodgy style of LVG.
He said: "It's easier to have 20 new players and start from zero. For years they had principles of play that are clearly not my principles.
"The players are players - without losing identity they adapt to what the manager wants.
"After two years work there things in their brains that are automatic, that is difficult to change.
"The players are giving everything to adapt. Step by step my team is going to be my team."
