Geronimo Rulli signs for Real Sociedad until 2022 weeks after joining Manchester City
The Argentine goalkeeper made 37 appearances for the Spanish club last season
GERONIMO RULLI has signed for Real Sociedad until 2022 – just weeks after joining Manchester City.
The 24-year-old stopper's move to the Spanish club, where he made 37 appearances last season, was announced on their website, but there is some confusion over the deal.
On July 18, City signed Rulli from Uruguay's Deportivo Maldonado, his parent club, and then loaned him back to Sociedad until December.
He has been on loan at the Basque club since 2014 when Deportivo bought his rights from Estudiantes.
When his loan to Sociedad was due to end this December they were thought to have an option to buy 70 per cent of his rights.
However, the latest announcement has sparked some confusion and the San Sebastian outfit haven't released further details as of yet.
Rulli, who is currently at the Olympics in Rio with Argentina, also confirmed the move on his Twitter account.
He shared a picture of himself playing for Sociedad and encouraged fans to tweet the hashtag #Rulli2022.
However, City are still thought to have an option to get Rulli back in 2018.
New boss Pep Guardiola is rumoured to be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper to replace Joe Hart.
Barcelona's Marc-Andre ter Stegen has been linked with the Manchester club over the summer, as has fellow Barca star Claudio Bravo.
A City insider recently said: “Hart’s place is definitely under threat next season and Pep is looking for another goalkeeper.
“He wants someone to come straight in who is good with their feet. This is the biggest challenge of his City career.
