But the Argentinian's representative Carlos Goncalves says United have rejected several offers for Rojo.

Goncalves said: "Manchester United rejected several offers from England and from abroad to sell the player. Manchester United want him to stay."

Rojo moved to United in 2014 for around £14million after impressing Louis van Gaal during the World Cup.

He has made 58 appearances for the club since his move from Portugal and has scored one goal but has been hampered by injuries.

According to reports in Spain, Valencia were looking to bring in Rojo for around £10.26million.

But it seems Mourinho wants to keep the player in his squad for the season.

United face rivals Manchester City after the international break and Mourinho will want to keep his squad numbers up ahead of the long season.

United were willing to offer Rojo to Southampton as part of a deal to bring Jose Fonte to Old Trafford.
