PEP GUARDIOLA hailed Kevin De Bruyne as Manchester City’s own Lionel Messi.

KDB inspired City’s latest romp and Guardiola, who coached Messi at Barcelona, said: “Kevin is one of the best players I’ve worked with. Messi is on his own in the table but Kevin is in the next table and he is right up there.”

De Bruyne opened the scoring before Kelechi Iheanacho, Raheem Sterling and Ilkay Gundogan wrapped up the 4-0 win.

Guardiola added: “I think Kevin is a special player. He always decides what to do right every single time. Sometimes you have to run with the ball, sometimes you have to pass, but Kevin always makes the right choice.

“I am lucky to have him and I think he can enjoy his football with us. He is one of the best. But to be one of the very best you have to win titles.

Guardiola was full of praise for the City forward

“He would like to win individual prizes — because every player does — but I think he is happy.”

Guardiola was not so happy with Nolito who faces a three-match ban for a crazy dismissal.

The Spanish forward got his marching orders after trying to headbutt Adam Smith when his team were 4-0 ahead.

Guardiola, who says the ref was right to brandish red in the 86th minute, will be without his £13.8million buy until mid-October.

He added: “The referee saw it and we accept his decision.”
