West Brom to hijack Scotland’s move for Northern Ireland’s Michael O’Neill if they sack boss Tony Pulis
WEST BROM are set to hijack Scotland’s move for Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill.
SunSport understands Baggies boss Tony Pulis is facing the sack after his side’s 4-0 thrashing by Chelsea and O’Neill is their No1 target.
The Irish FA have offered him a lucrative new contract.
And the SFA are all set to kick off talks with O’Neill after being given permission by the IFA.
They are willing to double his £500,000 salary — but a move to West Brom would TREBLE his wages.
Rangers and the USA are also interested, but a shot at the Premier League would prove hard to reject.
There were several chants of “Pulis out" during and after the drubbing and the ex-Stoke manger’s days look numbered.
Pulls has been under pressure for several weeks with Albion in free-fall and languishing just a point above the drop zone.
Baggies chiefs have been impressed with O’Neill’s success with Northern Ireland after guiding them to the last 16 of Euro 2016 and coming so close to qualifying for the Word Cup, controversially missing out to Switzerland in a play-off.
Baggies skipper Jonny Evans, Gareth McAuley and Chris Brunt sing O’Neill’s praises and having three worked with senior stars at close quarters, would be a great advantage.
If West Brom make a move, they will have to fork out £750,000 to trigger O’Neill release clause, which only applies to Premier League clubs AND Celtic.
