The Open 2016: Masters winner Danny Willett gets slap on wrist for talking to Joey Barton

DANNY WILLETT got a slap on the wrist for talking to Joey Barton ahead of his Open Championship campaign.

The Masters champion was nattering away with the new Rangers signing during a promotional stint at Ibrox last night.

But the talk between the pair and Swede Henrik Stenson got a little bit too loud while Denis Pugh, Colin Montgomerie's former coach, was performing his master of ceremony duties on the microphone.

That prompted Callaway PR and events manager Sue Page to interject with a prompt warning for them to be quiet.

The waving of paper in the face of Stenson duly made him stop talking before the trio took to the stage to hit wedge shots to a target in the middle of the pitch.

None of the top players, which included PGA Tour winner Branden Grace, hit the centre circle of the target some 74 yards away.

And spare a thought for Josh Windass, son of Hull legend Dean, who suffered the humiliation of a shank in front of the 100 or so people crowded in the stand.

It was met with a cheer though, when his ball rolled into a goal almost at a right angle to where he hit from.
