His dad owned Man Utd and he’s giving away a £250,000 Ferrari, meet Tom Magnier, heir to billion-pound racing fortune

HE is the son of a former Manchester United owner, is giving away a £250,000 Ferrari and stands to inherit a fortune in the billions.

You could say that whatever happens on the racecourse, Tom Magnier is onto a serious winner.

The son of horse racing tycoon John Magnier, Tom, much like his old man, is not one to seek the limelight.

But their spectacular success has made them arguably the global powerhouse in the sport.

John owns Coolmore, a racing giant famed for making millions in stud fees as well as producing winners on the track.

No stallion was more famous than Galileo, who was valued at up to £1billion at the time of his death in July last year.

Stud fees are a notoriously private part of racing, but at his peak Galileo was charging a rumoured £600,000 a go to cover a mare.

And he could have covered as many as three a day.

It is in this money-spinning world that Tom now excels, taking care of his dad's company in Australia.

Horses have always been in the family - but perhaps the most famous of all coincided with John's time as owner of Man Utd.

The infamous row over Rock of Gibraltar - a £200million racehorse John co-owned with Sir Alex Ferguson - almost threatened to tear the club apart.

As it was, a settlement was reached between the two parties and John subsequently sold the club to the Glazer family.

Funnily enough though, another sporting institution famed for the colour red has come to be associated with the family these days.

Tom recently announced that Coolmore was giving away a £250,000 Ferrari to one lucky racing fan.

To be in with a chance of winning the Ferarri 488 - which boasts a 3.9litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, has a top speed of 224mph and can do 0-62mph in just three seconds flat - you had to buy a horse and see it win one of 16 designated races.

And the horse had to be one of the yearling crop of Justify, the unbeaten superstar of US racing who won connections £2,813,333 from just six races.

Those yearlings will go on sale this month so one punter with deep pockets could have a new motor in their collection soon thanks to Tom.

While a £250,000 Ferrari is incredible, in truth it's small change compared to the reported £1.9bn John is worth.

The family's astronomical wealth has enabled a life of luxury.

And that reportedly included Tom buying a property on Wolseley Road.

That was known as Australia's most expensive street and one house there went for £27.8m a few years ago.

That property included a 21-person lift, art gallery and a chute for dirty linen, as well as nine bathrooms - with one for the gardener.

Now it looks like Tom spends all his time in Coolmore HQ Hunter Valley - which has been labelled a 'living work of art'.

For all the success on the track, there's no doubt Tom has continued to ensure Coolmore are also a success off it.
