MASSAAT DROPPED

Burrows draws stumps with Massaat

Massaat has been ruled out for the rest of the season but will come back into training as a four-year-old

MASSAAT, runner-up in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket, will not run again this season.

Trainer Owen Burrows has decided to draw stumps with the Teofilo colt after he struggled upon his return from a long absence at Salisbury last month.

"He's finished for the year," said the Newmarket handler.

"He'll have a break now and we will bring him back next year.

"He is back at Shadwell.

"There is nothing major wrong with him, we've just found a few niggly problems.

"But they are enough to explain the poor run at Salisbury and enough to put a stop to his year.

"All being well, we will start him off back over a mile next year.

"He is only lightly raced and we are still learning about him."
