International target
Scott admitted he was surprised to beat the talented My Tent Or Yours who finished third but will give his hurdler some top targets in the hope of picking up more prize money
JEREMY SCOTT is to give Melodic Rendezvous entries in the StanJames.com International at Cheltenham and the 32Red Christmas Hurdle at Kempton next month.
Despite his advancing years, the Grade One-winning hurdler found only Scottish Champion Hurdle winner Ch'tibello too strong on his seasonal return at Haydock on Saturday.
Scott said: "Melodic Rendezvous ran a great race at Haydock. All last season he never really got on that wet, sloppy ground which is what he is best on.
"It is enough to slow the others down a bit. When running him on better ground, he just does struggle with speed.
"In all honesty, I didn't expect to beat My Tent Or Yours (third). I think he underperformed and we performed back to where we are capable of competing.
"Also, his runs tend to deteriorate through the season, as physically he doesn't tend to take it. Historically, his best runs are usually his first two or three.
"I'd love to think he would run well in one of those big limited handicaps like the Ladbroke.
"I would not be ruling something like that out, but he would have to have ideal conditions as we have found he is not great in those big 20-plus runner races.
"We will be looking at the International and Christmas Hurdle - similar races to the one at Haydock - and he will certainly get entered in those to try pick up some prize-money.
"Small fields seem to suit him better."
