De Bromhead keen to test Lieutenant
Henry de Bromhead's new recruit has won both his starts for his new trainer in good style and his capabilities will now be tested
HENRY DE BROMHEAD is keen to see how Sub Lieutenant gets on back in the best company in the John Durkan Memorial Punchestown Chase on Sunday week.
Formerly trained by Sandra Hughes, the Gigginstown House Stud-owned seven-year-old has won both of his starts for his new trainer in good style.
The most recent of those came in a Grade Two at Down Royal where he beat Outlander, who was in the process of franking the form in the Clonmel Oil Chase when he fell at the last.
"The John Durkan Chase is very much the plan for Sub Lieutenant and I've been very happy with him since Down Royal," said De Bromhead.
"The John DurKan is a big step up again but Outlander didn't look like he was going to do our form any harm so it will be interesting to see how our lad progresses."
