Tough task for Growl
Fahey is well aware of the tough task facing his sprinter but with some good Group 1 form in the book he deserves to take his chance in Hong Kong
RICHARD FAHEY admits Growl faces a tough task on Sunday when he lines up in the Longines Hong Kong Sprint.
With international challengers aplenty, Fahey's sprinter will have to overcome a wide draw in stall 12 if he is to taste glory.
A Listed winner on his last start, Growl showed he deserved a crack at the top level once again when running second to The Tin Man in the Group 1 Champions Sprint back in October.
Fahey said: "He's settled in well, drinking and eating and done everything we want so we're happy.
"I never thought travelling would be a problem with him and thankfully we've had no issues.
"We've all seen before that it's been tough for English sprinters over here so we've got to buck that trend and we've also got buck the trend of coming from a wide draw.
"There's lots of pace in the race so we'll just see what happens.
"I guess I was never confident coming here with such a strong field but we've got to be hopeful and he deserves his place and he'll run his race whatever on Sunday."
Japan's Big Arthur heads the betting for the Sprint on Sunday where Growl is a general 50-1 chance.
