SOUTHWELL

DAILY TRADER can bag a profit in this modest opener. He looks the one to beat if he repeats the form he showed when second here last time out. He showed good heart to battle back once headed and made a good race of it. He was with John Gosden in the early part of his career and is bred as you might expect for a horse with that background. This mile trip seems to suit and a 2lb rise in the weights for that solid last outing gives him plenty of appeal here.

It looks signed and sealed for TREATY OF ROME after a luckless effort around here last time out. He didn’t get the run of the race there and had put the burners on early to move into contention too far out. He then just couldn’t keep going to the line, going down by a neck in a driving finish. A 4lb walk up the weights for that isn’t too harsh and the first-time cheekpieces are interesting for a horse of his experience.

DUNGANNON still looks swift enough at 10 to win this. He usually goes well here, including when beaten half a length 19 days ago. That was in a Class 4 handicap so it’s a fair fall down the grades into this seller. He proved a good ride for 7lb claimer Joshua Bryan last time and they go over the same trip again. There’s no reason why he can’t go one better.

SHOWDAISY looks ready to bloom after getting no trouble in running here last time out. She was beaten just two lengths despite racing on the less favoured side for most of the race. Her previous visit to Southwell saw her run out a convincing winner and gave the impression that there was more in her locker.

L’INGANNO FELICE looks like a reformed character having won his past two races in good style. He had looked a “character” in his early races but PJ McDonald has been getting a nice tune out of him in 2017. He won well at Newcastle before hosing up here over this trip 14 days ago. The handicapper has booted him up 7lb for that but he could easily be up to that.
4.10
PLAYFUL DUDE clearly likes the sand as his form has improved a bundle since being switched to the slower surface at Southwell. After a couple of seconds, he had more than the two-length winning margin in hand when scoring last time. That was over today’s trip and a 4lb hike in the weights looks fair enough.
