Racing Tips – How to bet £10 on Saturday with Templegate’s TV Tenner
Fancy a bet on today's races at Ascot, Wincanton and Haydock? Our tipster guides you through the best way to spend £10
THE boys at Sun Bets have set me a challenge.
They’ve given me ten quid – yep, I did check the watermark – and they want me to turn it into a decent Saturday afternoon punting profit.
Now a ‘cock ‘n hen’ might not go as far as it used to when you could get a guts full of Skol, 20 Bensons and still have enough for a fry up in the morning.
Templegate's TV Tenner
- £1.50 Trixie: Topofthegame (1.15 Ascot), Aux Ptits Soins (2.05 Haydock), The Worlds End (3.50 Haydock)
- £2 win: Divine Spear (3.00 Ascot)
- £2 win: Vintage Clouds (3.15 Haydock)
But fear not. I reckon I’ve got a way of beating the ’80s inflation. I’m confident this is the best tenner since Domingo and Carreras dragged Pavarotti away from the all-you-can-eat buffet.
We’re going to start with one of my favourite bets – the Trixie. This cheeky little number is four bets from three horses. Three doubles and a treble. An each-way Trixie is a cracking bet but today I’m going for the win.
Matt Chapman's TV Tips
- Ascot 1.50: Apege D'Alene (Nap)
- Haydock 2.05: Zarkandar
- Ascot 2.25: O'Faolains Boy
- Haydock 2.40: Dadsintrouble
- Wincanton 2.45: Yanworth
- Ascot 3.00: Man of Plenty
- Ascot 3.35: Cue Card
TOPOFTHEGAME (1.15 Ascot) kicks us off. He won by a short-head on his hurdles debut at this track in December but he was value for much further. It was on inexperience that cost him as the race was in the bag when he lost concentration in the closing stages. Paul Nicholls’ youngster moved like a smart horse when fourth behind top novice Wholestone at Cheltenham last time. I’ve no doubt the best is yet to come from this Irish point-to-point winner.
Nicholls also trains my second selection AUX PTITS SOINS (2.05 Haydock). He won the Coral Cup at the 2015 Cheltenham Festival on his debut for the champion trainer. His chasing record has been hit-and-miss this season but he remains a fine prospect. The return to hurdles should do the trick.

Hopefully it will all be rolling on to THE WORLDS END (3.50). I’ve been really impressed with his brace of wins at Chepstow and Top George’s ace can only improve for today’s longer distance.
If we have a £1.50 Trixie that costs £6 so we’ve got £4 left.

I’m sticking half that on DIVINE SPEAR (3.00 Ascot). He won narrowly at Fontwell on Boxing Day before running a sound race when third behind William H Bonney at Cheltenham last month. The step up in distance will help him and he’s a nice price at 10-1.
I’m having the remaining £2 on VINTAGE CLOUDS (3.15 Haydock) at 7-1 in the Grand National Trial. He likes this track and I’ve been waiting for him to step up to this marathon distance. There’s every chance he would have been placed behind Bristol De Mai but for a fall three from home in the Peter Marsh Chase last time. I’m sure he’s well weighted.
I reckon that’s a tip-top tenner’s worth for you. You betcha.
