WINCANTON TIPS

2.10
LIKE THE SOUND is getting the hang of things over hurdles and almost followed up his Uttoxeter win when second at Kempton last time out. He had no problem seeing out this trip and just found one too good. He is best with some cut in the ground and has gone well for his claiming rider before.

PURE VISION went close at Uttoxeter last time on the back of a gutsy win at Lingfield. That was over 2m in testing ground but that feels like further around Leafy. He just found one too good last time and gave away little in defeat. He should handle the ground and looks fairly handicapped even after a 4lb rise for last time.

BALLINVARRIG isn’t a chaser to set your watch by but he was very impressive when scoring at Leicester last time. He had 14 lengths in hand crossing the line and it could have been a lot more. Trainer Tom George’s horses are going well so there’s every chance that he will run a similar race here. He likes the trip and a 10lb rise in the weights still leaves him short of his highest mark.

Wincanton 2.40: Pure Vision

APPLE’S QUEEN is the most interesting runner in this trappy race. He comes over from France where, on his day, he was capable of some good form. He has won a couple of point-to-points on this side of the Channel and, at just seven, has plenty of improvement in him.
4.10
KRISTAL HART already looks better suited to hurdling that running on the Flat where she hasn’t achieved much. But she comes from a good jumping family and showed some of the family talent when third at Lingfield last time out. That was over this trip in soft ground and she wouldn’t have to improve much to figure.

None of these really set the heart racing but CHIVERS has shown enough to win a modest contest like this. That was at Leicester two starts ago when he finished third in a blanket finish. He has since run poorly at Fontwell but the ground was very deep there which could explain it. He looks on a fair enough mark and should be involved in the finish.
