Racing Tips – Top Tipster Steve Mullen’s best horse racing selections for Friday, March 24

Steve Mullen guides you through Friday's racing from Newbury, Musselburgh, Lingfield and Newcastle

NEWBURY

COASTAL TIEP has shown lots of promise on his three hurdles outings, kicking off with a win at Kempton on debut in November.

He then finished midfield in good company at Ascot before improving to finish a close second at Kempton latest. That was his best effort yet and this sort of distance seems ideal. He won’t mind some give in the ground and is dropping in class today.

HOWLONGISAFOOT won as he liked at Stratford last time where he enjoyed dropping down short of 3m. He tackles the same trip here and won’t mind the bit of give in the ground. A 7lb penalty for such a convincing success shouldn’t put the brakes on.

3.05

MALAPIE did well to chase down the leader and win at Southwell last time as he had to come from an unpromising position.

In the end, he was value for further than three-quarters of a length and this race doesn’t look any tougher. He has a 7lb penalty for that success but, with his trainer in good form, that shouldn’t be a problem.

3.40

WILD WEST WIND landed back-to-back wins at Wincanton and Hereford before putting in a solid third at Exeter last time out. He is very much at his best over this distance and he runs off the same mark, which is only 3lb higher than his last victory. He’s proven at this level and should run another good race.

4.10

MAESTRO ROYAL should find this easier than the 14-runner handicap he contested at Cheltenham last time.

He was midfield there and has been given a nice break by trainer Nicky Henderson. He has had a little help from the handicapper which should help him show the form that earned him a solid win at Sandown in January.

4.45

TRIANGULAR is an interesting runner coming back under rules for the first time in more than two years. He has been winning in the pointing field since then and was in the frame earlier this month. This doesn’t look the strongest of hunter chases and he should be good enough to figure.
