JONJO O'NEILL's dual Cheltenham Festival winner Holywell has been retired.

The 10-year-old won the Pertemps Final in 2013 before adding another Festival triumph when landing a Grade 3 chase in 2014.

He then went on to Grade 1 glory at Aintree when he had subsequent Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Don Cossack well beaten in second in the Mildmay Novices' Chase.

Holywell has not quite matched that 2014 peak though, with his last victory coming at Kelso in February 2015 before finishing a creditable fourth in that year's Gold Cup.

Holywell was pulled up at both Cheltenham and Aintree this season, and the O'Neill team have decided the time is right to draw stumps.

A statement on www. jonjooneillracing.com, said: "It has been an honour to train such a top class horse, who has given his owners Gay, Derrick and Paul Smith so much fun over the years and he's being retired in great health.

"We know he will have a long and lovely retirement with Richie McLernon's family in Ireland."
