WEDNESDAY’S ITV 4 RACES

NEWMARKET 1.50

DARK DEFENDER has had the benefit of a comeback run at Naas last time when the ground was quite a bit softer than ideal. While he likes a bit of give he also goes on this quicker surface. He has dropped to the same mark that saw him win well at York in September and this looks his best trip too.

NEWMARKET 2.25

SIR DANCELOT didn’t get home over a mile in the Group 1 Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster in October so this drop back in distance looks ideal. He ran away with a York Listed race over 6f before that and also caught the eye when placed over this course and distance. Reports from the yard suggest that he has trained on from two to three and he should be fit and ready for this comeback.

CHELTENHAM 2.40

VOIX D’EAU ran a modest race under his amateur rider at the Festival last time and has the benefit of Noel Fehily in the saddle again here. He has shown his best form over this distance and usually goes well around here. The ground won’t be a problem and he’s had a little help from the handicapper for good measure.

NEWMARKET 3.00

FOLKSWOOD went mighty close to winning the prestigious Group 1 Jebel Hatta at Meydan last time out. He was beaten in a driving finish there, giving the impression that he was capable of winning at the highest level. He is a specialist over this distance as he showed with a couple of other solid wins in Dubai over the winter. That means he’s fit for this and should go close.

NEWMARKET 3.35

ROLY POLY looks open to improvement over this trip after running some big races over 6f as a juvenile. She was last seen running midfield in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, which gives you an idea of what connections feel she’s capable of. She took the Cheveley Park Stakes here on similar ground in July and has gone well fresh before.
