Fontwell racecourse

NEWBURY

2.00

EMBOUR is very nicely bred and comes from the Richard Hannon team that has plenty of success with unraced juveniles. He has plenty of winning sprinters in the family and the yard has made its usual fast start to the season.

2.30

OCEANE is a proper staying handicapper so it was a surprise to see him run over a totally inadequate 1m5f at Lingfield last time out. That will at least mean he’s spot on fitness wise for this return to a marathon distance. He’s still only 5lb higher than when winning over an extended 2m at York in August and that’s good enough form to take this.

3.05

SHUTTER SPEED is pitched in against the colts here on the back of an excellent debut run at Yarmouth in October. She looked a really nice type there when overcoming obvious greenness to win in a driving finish. John Gosden has made a bright start to the season and has chances of another winner.

3.40

It’s still hard not to get excited about the debut of Frankel’s offspring and his MORI looks the one to beat here. She should relish this distance and, obviously, is related to a host of smart types. She may need this but the betting will be a good pointer on that score.

4.10

The draw has not been the kindest to CHESSMAN but he should still be good enough to take this. He had all the notebooks out after winning well on debut at Kempton in November. It was the way he overcame trouble in running that caught the eye. He has plenty of potential and an opening handicap mark of 87 looks on the skinny side.

4.40

DOUBLE UP has a touch of class and was good enough to contest a Group 1 last season. His best run of the season came when a close-up fourth in the Portland Handicap at Doncaster over 5.5f. That extra staying power should help with the uphill finish here.

5.10

MAY SKY is all speed and was bought for a pretty penny after impressing at the Breeze-Up Sale. She has been sent to a top trainer and comes from a family that hints that this distance will be ideal. You would expect her to be fit enough to do herself justice.

5.40

TIRANIA is closely related to a host of winners over this tricky distance including the classy Divine Power. She has been given a helping hand by the draw and trainer William Haggas has his horses going well at the moment.
