Andrew Balding’s Poet’s Vanity drops in trip for the Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock on Saturday
After finishing third in the Nell Gwyn, Andrew Balding's filly didn't appear to stay the mile in the QIPCO 1,000 Guineas and will now be dropped back to six furlongs at Haydock
POET'S VANITY will return to sprinting in Saturday's Timeform Jury Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock.
Andrew Balding's filly finished third in the Nell Gwyn before not staying in the QIPCO 1,000 Guineas and is one of 14 confirmations for the six-furlong Group 2 prize.
Balding said: "The thought was that she didn't stay in the 1000 Guineas, which was a bit of a surprise.
"We will drop her right back in trip now down to six furlongs and go for the Sandy Lane. I didn't think this would be her next race, but she didn't stay the mile."
Charlie McBride hopes to run Spiritual Lady, but only if the ground is suitable.
McBride said: "She will go to Haydock on Saturday, provided the ground has soft in the description. She wants cut in the ground and can't have fast ground.
"We can't risk her on anything quicker than good ground, otherwise it would be a disaster.
"She has done very well over the winter and has strengthened up and improved again. I am looking forward to running her, but if the rain stays away from Haydock she will be staying in her box."
