Royal Ascot 2017 – Ralph Beckett’s Simple Verse in good form ahead of the Ascot Gold Cup next month

Beckett's mare ran extremely well on her seasonal reappearance this year when finishing a close second to Dartmouth in the Yorkshire Cup earlier this month

RALPH BECKETT has confirmed 2015 St Leger winner Simple Verse is set to make her next start in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot.

The mare, who is a general 12-1 shot for the Group 1 contest on June 22, ran well when finishing a neck-second behind Dartmouth in the Yorkshire Cup earlier this month.

Beckett said: "Simple Verse is good and she will head to Ascot for the Gold Cup. I was delighted with with her run at York.
