Royal Ascot 2017 – Oisin Murphy wins the Hampton Court Stakes with Godolphin’s Benbatl
Murphy gave Benbatl a great ride as he held off the challenge of the heavily backed Orderofthegarter who had to make his run out wide on the track
BENBATL showed a brilliant turn of foot to land the Hampton Court Stakes.
Charlie Appleby's Godolphin-owned colt was last seen running fifth in the Derby but he got his head in front once again under Oisin Murphy.
Turning into the straight, Ryan Moore pulled the heavily backed Orderofthegarter as he put in what looked like a winning run.
But Benbatl had already got first run on him and flown for home, Mirage Dancer came home third.
Murphy was animated in the saddle after passing the post as he claimed his first Royal Ascot winner.
"I don't celebrate very often, but that one meant the world to me," said the jockey. "It builds up in your mind and you're just trying to get it out of the way and the monkey off your back. It's fantastic to do it.

He said: "When he won first time (at Doncaster) we thought this was a horse for big races. He finished fifth in the Derby and we thought the mile and a quarter would be better for him.
