Andre Fabre’s Waldgeist to put Epsom rematch on the back-burner in the Irish Derby
French Derby second Waldgeist can prove the French form to be stronger than that of the Epsom renewal by triumphing in the Irish equivalent for Andre Fabre.
WALDGEIST can take the Irish Derby back to France.
All the talk is about how Cracksman and winner Wings Of Eagles will fare in their rematch after Epsom.
But they will all be put in their place by Andre Fabre’s classy colt. He was beaten a short-head in what looks a good running of the French Derby last time out.
They run that race over 1m2f and he was putting in all his best work at the finish after being hampered at the mile post.
He looks to be crying out for this step up in distance and he’ll have no problem with some cut in the ground. He has already taken a Group 1 with some give, when winning the prestigious Criterium de Saint Cloud.
There should be more improvement to come and he can silence the Ballydoyle brigade.

The Epsom form has been franked by Benbatl and Permian coming out and winning at Royal Ascot last week.
Cracksman is expected to improve for his run in the Derby given it was only his third visit to a racecourse. He was also in the firing line for a lot longer than Cliffs Of Moher and Wings Of Eagles.
But the winner hasn’t had enough credit for the way he swept to victory. Wings Of Eagles himself was hampered a couple of times up the straight so it was a brilliant effort to get up and win so cheekily.
He can beat Cracksman again — but Waldgeist can silence all of them.
