Trainer Condon has big Ascot clash on the agenda for his stable star Success Days
Group 1 aim now on the cards for great grey Irish hope Success Days after his narrow defeat in International Stakes behind Johannes Vermeer at The Curragh on Sunday
TRAINER Ken Condon could be seeking Success at Ascot's star-studded Champions Day this autumn.
Success Days was narrowly defeated by Ballydoyle ace Johannes Vermeer in the Group 3 International Stakes at The Curragh on Sunday.
And now Condon is considering lofty targets for the five-year-old grey.
He said: "He ran a great race the other day on ground quicker than ideal. We were very pleased with him.
"He was conceding 3lb to Johannes Vermeer and has run his usual consistent race.
"The Royal Whip at The Curragh in August might be next if the ground is suitable, although we'll also keep an eye on the Meld Stakes in Leopardstown before then.
"If the ground came up soft, the Group 1 we'd be looking at is the Champion Stakes in Ascot.
"We'll see how things pan out between now and then."
Condon was also pleased with the performance of Mamba Noire, third in the Grangecon Stud Stakes at The Curragh.
He added: "The two filles who finished ahead of her, Clemmie and Butterscotch, are probably both Group 1 fillies.
"There was no hiding place. A few of the jockeys said it rode like a good race and that's the way it looked.
"She'll have an entry in the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes in Newmarket on Friday week."
