Melbourne Cup contender Francis Of Assisi set for Geoffrey Freer Stakes return at Newbury racecourse
Charlie Appleby's seven-year-old made a big impression Down Under last year and was quickly considered a Melbourne Cup candidate for this year's renewal
LEADING Emirates Melbourne Cup contender Francis Of Assisi could make his return in the Betfred Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury next month.
Trainer Charlie Appleby has the Group 3 as a target for the seven-year-old ahead of a return trip to Australia for a shot at the 'race that stops a nation'.
He created a big impression on his spell Down Under last year when claiming back-to-back Group 3 handicaps at Bendigo and Flemington.
