GLORIOUS GOODWOOD
1.50
OASIS FANTASY hit the crossbar in this last year and returns 5lb lower in the weights with every chance of going one better.
He wasn’t helped by meeting the traditional Goodwood trouble in running and even then he went down by just a neck.
Silvestre De Sousa was on board 12 months ago and Jamie Spencer takes the ride this time.
He gets more than his share of stick thanks to his liking for coming from behind but his style is perfectly suited to this horse and this race.
Some juice in the ground helps too as his best run this season came on good to soft. That was at York in May where he cut his way through the field to come home a solid third over today’s trip.
He drops back from a couple of more modest runs over 1m4f and trainer David Simcock reaches for the headgear after a few runs without it. That may just help him concentrate a little better.
At massive odds, Baydar will relish these conditions after struggling on faster ground for most of this season. He won nicely at Newbury the last time he tackled this distance with a little cut underfoot.
He could easily bounce back, while Master Carpenter is another who is capable of outrunning his price after an encouraging effort at York last time out.
At the top of the betting, Garcia has been well backed after his slightly unlucky fifth in the John Smith’s Cup at York last time out.
He was asked to make his effort from a long way back and Ryan Moore takes over from Jack Garritty in the saddle today.

ZAMAN caught the eye right from his debut when he won really nicely in a York maiden.
He was then quickly thrown into the deep end of the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot, which looked a little too much too soon for him as he finished down the field.
After a morale-boosting success at Pontefract, he looked ready for a race like this when finishing a close fourth to Gustav Klimt in the Superlative Stakes at Newmarket.
That was his first run over this 7f trip and he saw it out well. Although there are others in the field with fewer miles on the clock, he looks capable of going close again.
Expert Eye knew his job when scoring at Newbury and rates a big danger, while Seahenge won easily at Naas on debut and is open to lots of improvement.

HOME OF THE BRAVE keeps things simple in that he just goes from it from the off — and those tactics are pretty wise at Goodwood.
He should keep out of the inevitable trouble in running you get in these big fields here.
He had more in hand than the official winning margin of three-quarters of a length would suggest at Newmarket when taking the Group 3 Criterion Stakes last time.
He went from the front there and kicked on 2f out to quickly settle matters. This will be a bit tougher but he was second in this last year when, for some reason, he was settled off the pace.
Hopefully lessons have been learned and he can go one better.
Limato is the classiest performer in the field and he was an excellent second in the July Cup last time out.
So this is a drop in class but also his first taste of Goodwood so we’ll see how he handles it.

Big Orange is a deserved hot favourite for the Goodwood Cup after his heroics at Ascot last time out. It will take a mighty effort for anyone to stop him landing this race for the third year running.
So we’ll have an each-way interest in WICKLOW BRAVE.
He is one of the few contenders in the field who has already tasted staying success at this lofty Group 1 level.
That came when he lowered the colours of Order Of St George in the Irish St Leger last year.
He was then sent down under for the Melbourne Cup but was snookered by the draw and had no chance of landing a blow.
After a successful winter over hurdles when he won the Punchestown Champion Hurdle, he came back to the level to finish fourth at Belmont in America before a close-up second in a Curragh Group 2 last time out.
Obviously his form is a little short of Big Orange, but he should be capable of holding his own against the rest and come home in the first three.
Another to consider at a big price is Qewy. He likes it around here and was an excellent fourth in the Melbourne Cup.
He ran well in the Queen Alexandra Stakes at Royal Ascot last time and we know he’ll see out this distance with no problems.
4.10
REBEL STREAK was unlucky not to win at Ascot last time when he was stopped in his tracks heading into the final furlong. Once in the clear again he picked up to come home with a real rattle.
That was just his second run so there’s every chance he’ll pull out more here.
Tribal Quest has been knocking on the door and was beaten in a bobbing finish at Newmarket last time out.
That was over 7f but the drop back in trip shouldn’t be a problem given he’s blessed with plenty of pace.
Algam also caught the eye on his debut at Epsom last time. He went through the tacky ground well despite not being asked too many questions. He handled the track so should act on Goodwood.

BOOM THE GROOM won this 12 months ago and has every chance of following up from just 4lb higher in the weights.
Forget his run over 6f at Royal Ascot last time because this is very much his best trip these days.
He showed that when a close-up sixth in the Dash at Epsom on Derby day where he finished like a rocket but left his challenge a little late.
We know he likes this track and he won a big York handicap off this mark last year so the weight won’t be a problem.
Confessional is 10 now but rolled back the years to scoot in at Chester last time out. He’s up a fair 6lb for that but is another who’s proven around here and has a good draw.
He could easily hit the frame.
A Momentofmadness shaped well when third at Newmarket latest and saves his best for this distance. He likes to go from the front and, if he can get to the lead, he won’t be far away.
5.15
GHADAAYER got the job done well at Newmarket last time and can strike again.
Sir Michael Stoute’s three-year-old has come on in leaps and bounds this season with wins at Catterick and on the July Course.
She flashed her tail when scoring last time, which puts plenty of people off and helps the price a little. But she looked pretty genuine in digging in to land the victory.
That was over this mile distance and, with few miles on the clock, there should be more to come.
Sayem and Amabilis both come here on the back of good wins but are taking slightly greater hikes in class.
