Racing Tips – Top Tipster Steve Mullen’s best racing selections for Wednesday, August 16

Steve Mullen guides you through Wednesday's racing from Salisbury, Beverley, Newton Abbot, Kempton and Bangor

Salisbury racecourse

SALISBURY

STRATEGIST wasn’t beaten far in a good maiden at Ascot on debut last time and wouldn’t have to improve much for this.

William Haggas’s colt still looked pretty green on debut before improving as the race went on. He should progress from that.

2.20

This looks hard to call without looking at the pre-race betting market but BUFFER ZONE is related to some real superstars and any support would be significant.

Rogue has been running in decent races with a fair amount of credit and could make his experience pay.

JUSTICE LADY has been in good form and was only two lengths off the pace at Ascot last time out. That was after a game win at Doncaster from just 3lb lower in the weights.

She goes on any ground and should be on the premises again.

3.20

RIGOLETTO had little fortune in running when fourth at Newmarket last time out. He was short of room a couple of times and had to sit and suffer before coming home with a real rattle.

He had earlier won well on the July course and is best over this distance.

4.20 Salisbury Milky Way: 'Good second in an amateur riders’ race at Newbury last time and has the benefit of Ryan Moore in the saddle here'

You can make a case for half a dozen of these but COCONUT CREME can make good use of her weight allowance for being a three-year-old. S

he’s taking a fair drop in class after running with credit in the Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot last time. She is proven over this trip and should still be improving as a four-year-old.

4.20 - Mullen's star bet

MILKY WAY was a good second in an amateur riders’ race at Newbury last time and has the benefit of Ryan Moore in the saddle here.

A 3lb rise in the weights looks more than fair and he is open to improvement with so few miles on the clock.

4.50

BENGAL LANCER improved for stepping up to this trip for the first time when second at Sandown last time out.

He’s gone up just 1lb for that solid effort and wouldn’t have to improve much to go one better here.
