BATT OUT OF HELL

Racing Tips – Templegate’s top tips for all of ITV’s races on Friday, August 25

York comes under the spotlight as Templegate gives you his best bets for the day

Battaash

GET rocking to a Batt out of hell in the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes (3.35).

BATTAASH is the hottest sprinter in Europe and I reckon he will down US speedster Lady Aurelia in this mouth-watering dash down the York straight.

His sensational Goodwood defeat of Profitable showed he is top class and returning to faster ground can only help.

1.55: Get ahead of the Game.

Unexposed Godolphin ace GAME STARTER has looked a Group horse in winning both his races this season.

His Newmarket maiden win has worked out really well and he destroyed his rivals from the front when stepped up to 1m2f for his handicap debut.

Another extra couple of furlongs should be ideal and I’m expecting to see him in better races after today.

Stablemate Red Galileo has some decent form in the book. But he hasn’t won in Britain for nearly four years and doesn’t get much help from the handicapper.

In-form Roger Varian won this race 12 months ago with top-weight Barsanti.

His Appeared tops the field this time. He was hampered at Ascot last time and he won a big-field at this track last season.

At bigger prices Erik The Red and Al Neksh should run well.

  • 1.55 York - Game Starter: 'Another extra couple of furlongs should be ideal and I’m expecting to see him in better races after today'
  • 2.25 York - Dal Harraild: 'Progressive last season and he improved again to land a Listed race over 1m6f at this course in May'
  • 3.00 York - Daban: 'This might be a bigger field but it’s a weaker race and the drying conditions will suit her fine'
  • 3.35 York - Battaash: 'His brace of Sandown wins were good but he came of age when destroying a quality field at Goodwood last time'

2.25: Do a deal with Dal boy.

Newmarket-based Yorkshireman William Haggas has a great record at this track and his DAL HARRAILD should bag him another big prize.

He was progressive last season and he improved again to land a Listed race over 1m6f at this course in May.

Royal Ascot’s Hardwicke Stakes – when he was a length behind Dartmouth in sixth - was not enough of a test of his stamina. Today’s longer trip should help.

Dartmouth is 3lbs worse off with my fancy today. That Ascot contest did not really pan out for him and he’s better judged on his last-gasp Yorkshire Cup success in May.

That wasn’t the strongest Group 2 and the penalty he picked up makes life tricky.

Useful hurdler Thomas Hobson won the Ascot Stakes at the Royal meeting and returned four days later to finish runner-up in the Queen Alexandra.

He needs to prove he’s up to this level and the trip might be on the short side.

3.00: Have a Dabble on the City Of York Stakes.

I fancied DABAN for Saturday’s Hungerford Stakes but heavy rain forced John Gosden to pull her out of that Newbury contest.

This might be a bigger field but it’s a weaker race and the drying conditions will suit her fine.

Her third behind star filly Winter in the 1,000 Guineas is smart form and her sixth in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot was far from a bad effort considering she was taking on colts at level weights.

Talaayeb was just behind her in the Newmarket Classic and she failed to stay 1m2f last time. The good record of three-year-olds in this race gives her a chance.

Mubtasim is another three-year-old with a chance. He was third in the Jersey Stakes and every ray of sun will help William Haggas’ fast-ground lover.

Suedois has been running well in better races than this. This drop in class gives him a chance but his win record is not great.

3.35: Get Batt-ered in the Nunthorpe.

Like most people I couldn’t be more impressed with BATTAASH this season.

His brace of Sandown wins were good but he came of age when destroying a quality field at Goodwood last time.

He showed incredible pace to scorch clear of Profitable with the likes of Marsha, Take Cover, Washington DC, Final Venture and Priceless left toiling.

That was on soft ground but he’s even better on today’s faster surface.

Lady Aurelia also has blistering pace. Wesley Ward’s American raider beat Profitable in the King’s Stand at Royal Ascot and this track is sure to suit her.

This promises to be the biggest burn up since a dozy Pudding Lane baker left his loaves in the oven too long.

Old timer Take Cover was third in this race 12 months ago and speedy Marsha also has winning course form. But they are just playing for places behind the big two.
