GEORGE SCOTT is certainly keeping his in-laws happy.

A week after marrying Bill Gredley’s daughter Polly he saddled James Garfield to win the Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury in the veteran owner’s familiar yellow colours.

Frankie Dettori’s mount - a 100-30 shot - broke the juvenile course record to give Newmarket-based Scott his first British Group-race winner.

The 29-year-old said: “It’s been a pretty amazing week.

“James Garfield has danced every dance this season and it all went pretty smoothly for Frankie. It’s dream stuff.”

A trip to the Breeders’ Cup for the turf juvenile contest now could be on the cards.

Sun Bets make James Garfield a 7-1 chance to triumph in America.
