I’M off over to France tomorrow hoping for some Group 1 Magic on Chantilly’s Arc card.
I’ll be teaming up with MYTHICAL MAGIC again for Godolphin in the Jean-Luc Lagardere.
He gave me a Listed win at Deauville in August when he beat a nice horse of Andre Fabre’s called Cascadian and we were clear of the third.
He was then third — only beaten half a length — in the Champagne Stakes.
It’s a strong race. Charlie Appleby also has Masar and Jean-Claude Rouget runs Olmedo.
Aidan O’Brien runs the filly Happily, the Moyglare winner, so it looks a good race.
Chantilly is a nice track. It’s easy to ride and I’ve had plenty of winners there over the years.
I’ve not got a ride in the Arc and I can’t see anything beating Enable.
She’s uncomplicated and has high energy levels. I can see Frankie striking for home early. She looks exceptional as she goes for her fifth Group 1 win in Europe’s greatest prize.
The fillies’ weight allowance will make her very hard to beat.
Order Of St George has a squeak of being placed again. He was third last year after a surprise defeat in the Irish Leger. This year he was a wide-margin winner at The Curragh.
If stamina comes into play he has to have a chance.
It’s a stiff mile and a half at Chantilly, it takes a good bit of getting. You climb from after the chateau and it’s stiff enough up the home straight. That will make it tough for Ulysses.
I’ve got four rides at Newmarket. PETRUS (1.50) is a nice colt. I rode him first time when he was fourth in a red-hot Newbury maiden won by 2,000 Guineas favourite Expert Eye.
Brian Meehan’s youngsters are often quite green on their first run and improve vastly.
He did that when he won at Sandown over seven furlongs next time. He needs to step up a lot again but I can see him running well.

The ground is going to be on the easy side but I can’t see that being a problem.
MASTER THE WORLD (3.35) has a chance in the Cambridgeshire. He was second in the race two years ago when nailed on the line.
He only beat one home in it last season but that wasn’t his form. He won the big Betfred Mile at Goodwood and has run well in Group 3s since.
He has no secrets from the handicapper but he’s the class horse in the race. There’s not much between these heritage handicaps and Group 3s.
They’re high-class races run at a good pace so you need a horse who can travel well so you can take the gaps when they come.
A good cruising speed and a good pick-up are important and you need stamina for the trip. My horse seems to have those but you need luck with the draw and where the pace is.
LATE CHANGE (4.10) needs to step up a lot on what she has shown to win this. Hopefully she’ll run okay and then she can try handicaps.
I haven’t ridden FIRMDECISIONS (5.20) before. It’s an open handicap but if he handles the ground he’d have a squeak.
