HASTA LA VISTA

Martyn Meade’s 50-1 shot Dolphin Vista landed the Betfred Cambridgeshire at Newmarket racecourse

Dolphin Vista was having just his second start for Meade, but he sprung a 50-1 surprise in the big handicap of the day on the Rowley Mile

DOLPHIN VISTA sprung a 50-1 shock in the £160,000 Betfred Cambridgeshire on just his second start for trainer Martyn Meade.

The four-year-old – previously trained by Richard Fahey – was well clear on the stands’ side and he finished strongly enough to master the far-side group.

It was the kind of race bookies dream about with 100-1 outsider Sand Chorus finishing runner-up and 50-1 shot Cote D’Azur back in third. The Tricast paid more than £90,000.

Meade’s other runner Chelsea Lad finished well to grab fourth.

He said: “It's always a surprise in a race like this - so much can go wrong in a 35-runner handicap.

Aidan O’Brien bagged both Group 1 races on the card to take his top-level tally to 20 for the season.

Moore was only an also-ran on Sioux Nation in the Middle Park Stakes as Seamie Heffernan led home a Ballydoyle one-two on US Navy Flag.

The 10-1 shot was up with pace from the start and he held off stablemate Fleet Review – ridden by O’Brien’s son Donnacha – in the closing stages.

Leicester City triumph

DONJUAN TRIUMPHANT made it a brilliant couple of days for Leicester City chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.

His QEII hope Beat The Bank won the Group 2 Joel Stakes at Newmarket on Friday and he bagged another decent prize when Andrew Balding’s ace nosed home in the 32Red Gold Cup.

The 13-2 shot grabbed Stake Acclaim right on the line to land the £90,000 Haydock prize - put on to replace last weekend’s abandoned Ayr Gold Cup.

“We'll probably have a look at the Darley Dewhurst.”

The big-race double took O’Brien within five of Bobby Frankel’s worldwide record of Group 1 wins in a year.

Paddy Power cut him to 5-4 from 5-2 to beat the former American trainer's haul.
