REEL PLANS

Arc absentee Highland Reel given options by Aidan O’Brien

Aidan O'Brien and Ballydoyle will bide their time with their globetrotting superstar Highland Reel in a bid to find suitable ground, possible at Ascot or in America.

BALLYDOYLE's globetrotter Highland Reel could have his next run at Ascot or in America after Aidan O'Brien was forced to rule him out of the Prix l'Arc de Triomphe.

Europe's premier middle distance race - being run today at Chantilly - was on the agenda for the tough five-year-old until soft ground at the French track put an end to those plans.

However, O'Brien has revealed that Highland Reel could run in the Qipco Champion Stakes on Champions Day or head to Del Mar for the Breeders' Cup.

He has won the Coronation Cup and Prince of Wales's Stakes this season but has not been seen since being beaten nearly 10 lengths by Enable in the King George at Ascot on soft ground.

O'Brien said: "We are going to wait and see.

"He has the option of taking in the Champion Stakes or the Breeders Cup. The lads will think about what they want to do.

"The ground we thought was going to be too heavy in the Arc that is why we didn't go there."
