Horse racing tips: Kempton, Uttoxeter, Fontwell and Wolverhampton – Templegate’s betting preview for the racing this Saturday, March 17
Kempton, Uttoxeter, Fontwell and Wolverhampton come under the spotlight as Templegate gives you his best bets for the day.
UTTOXETER
1.50
SAHARA HAZE should put the heat on her rivals.
She broke her duck at Warwick when seeing out 3m2f for today’s jockey really well. That was in a race for inexperienced riders and whips couldn’t be used. It should have given her some confidence and this is not a great race.
Mozo has had three trainers in her dozen races. She has hinted at ability but it’s hard to be confident she is about to strike.
Frosty Dawn was a surprise runner-up in a poor race at Southwell in February. That doesn’t mean much and she took a crashing fall last time.
2.25
DIVE into BIG RIVER.
His third behind smart mare Ms Parfois in a Warwick Listed chase is smart form. The way that race was run probably didn’t suit him either.
It was good to see him beat Shantou Flyer – runner-up in the Ultima Chase at Cheltenham – last month at Kelso and he’s clearly progressing nicely.
Looksnowtlikebrian is two from three over fences. He must have a decent engine as his jumping as been far from perfect. If he can cut out the mistakes he be a threat.
Solighoster has plenty of wins against his name. He only beat one over rival at Warwick last month but he’s better judged on his Ffos Las victory in November. Neil Mulholland’s hope is still fairly weighted.
Behind Time has been more miss than hit over fences. It wasn’t a bad effort when third at Ffos Las last month but this is tougher.

Right turn CLYNE.
We’re heading in the correct direction with Evan Williams’ mud lover. He’s been running in hot races behind the likes of Old Guard and The New One recently and he should find this much easier.
Pearl Swan hasn’t been seen for more than a year. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him use this as a prep run before returning to chases.
Fleminport has won his last two races. They were both novice contests but he looks to be fairly treated for his handicap debut.
Du Soleil looked a promising youngster when making a winning hurdles debut in November. His jumping hasn’t been great since but it’s too early to be writing him off.

GO West in the Midlands National.
Stamina has been what’s required for four-days at Cheltenham this week and it’ll be crucial over 4m2f at Uttoxeter.
WEST OF THE EDGE looks to have stacks of staying power. He saw out the trip well but just found Baywing too good in the Eider Chase at Newcastle. The way he moved through the race suggested he has a decent prize in him.
Back To The Thatch was travelling nicely when he fell in the Eider. He has potential but his stamina had not been test at that point.
Kerry Lee has three runners. Welsh runner-up Alfie Spinner has his conditions and looks sure to run well. I’m not certain Krackatoa King will see out the distance and Russe Blanc seems to have lost the plot.
Get On The Yager is another who has to prove he stays this marathon distance. Unexposed Billy Bronco is much more interesting at a massive price.

KEMPTON

COP a load of Paul Nicholls’ hope.
COPAIN DE CLASSE’s win at Fontwell didn’t mean much. His only rival unseated at the second fence but his chase debut third at Ascot was a fine effort.
He was left behind by smart by Benatar – third in the JLT Chase at Cheltenham – in a Ascot handicap.
The softer ground shouldn’t bother him.
Deauville Dancer rattled up a hat-trick of wins earlier in the season. His subsequent effort behind Guitar Pete at Cheltenham shouldn’t be held against him as it came against more experienced rivals in a decent contest.
Kayf Blanco has only been beaten a neck on his last two starts. He’s consistent but that means he’s been creeping up the weights without winning.
Vocaliser is another in good form but he takes a step up in grade.

GO in for the Kil.
KILDISART won an Ascot maiden hurdle in November before chasing home useful Golan Fortune over today’s course and distance on Boxing Day. That form has worked out well and he was throwing down a big challenge when losing all chance with a blunder two hurdles from home.
I’ve no doubt he’s got a race like this in him.
Azzerti was a smooth winner at Huntingdon last month. He’s the type to keep progressing but the handicapper could have been kinder as he’s gone up 10lbs for that success.
Zubayr has never really got it all together over hurdles. He was second in an all-weather bumper last time but he does need everything to drop right.
This 2m5f trip is going to be on the sharp side for strong stayer Arthur’s Gift.

I’M all over the Hill.
BRANDON HILL ran a cracker from the front when beaten a length by well-weighted Bigbadjohn over three miles at this track last month.
He was probably just outstayed in the closing stages. They way he travels he might be even better over today’s shorter distance.
Favorito Buck’s came good at this track last month. That came after a three-month break on decent ground. He needs to prove he can back that effort up.
Cobra De Mai has done plenty of winning but most of it has been on much faster ground. He had a breathing operation before his victory at Warwick last month and he would be dangerous if the surgery has done the trick.
Bentelimar chased home smart Terrefort at Huntingon. That might flatter him a little and it was disappointing to see him beaten at Catterick last time out.
