BRIDGE won’t be crossed in Kempton’s 2.05.

JUMIRA BRIDGE achieved plenty for Roger Varian last season and has joined the Robert Cowell yard that has a happy knack of improving new arrivals.

His best efforts came in the early part of last term, including a convincing win in a good handicap at Sandown.

He picked up well off the muddling pace there and that finishing speed will come in handy today.

He went on to hold his own in Listed company at York before going close at Newmarket.

His form dipped a little towards the end of the year but the move of stables can pep him up — and there aren’t too many miles on the clock.

A Momentofmadness won this race 12 months ago in what turned out to be his only success of the season.

That’s not to say the rest of the campaign was a write-off as he held his own in some good quality contests, including when fourth in the Epsom Dash.

He goes well fresh and is a contender despite being 9lb higher in the weights than last year’s victory.

Tarboosh has done well in better races than this and finished last season with a close second in good company at Haydock.

That was on testing ground but he’s scored around here before so the surface won’t be a worry. He should be an each-way price and has every chance of hitting the frame.

RAVEN’S LADY can fly home in Kempton’s 2.40.

She blew away the cobwebs with a solid second at Wolverhampton last time out. She was coming back from more than four months off there and didn’t get the run of the race despite the small field.

She was consistent last season and landed a decent handicap at Newmarket in July from just 2lb lower in the weights. Marco Botti’s filly was then involved in a blanket finish for a Pontefract Listed contest.

Her two runs on the all-weather since have both been over 7f and she’ll be happier over this distance.

Tropics waltzed home over 5f at Chelmsford last time but is equally at home at today’s distance. He has to defy a 7lb rise in the weights but is in cracking form and could well do it.

LA FIGLIA can blossom in the Snowdrop Stakes (3.15 Kempton).

Jeremy Noseda’s filly has had just two runs but one of them was particularly impressive when she was a close-up second in a Newmarket Listed contest at the end of September.

Steve Mullen's top tips for Saturday

2.05 Kempton - Jumira Bridge: 'Robert Cowell does well with improving these types'

2.40 Kempton - Raven's Lady: 'She'll be much happier over this distance'

3.15 Kempton - La Figlia: 'Close second in Listed contest at Newmarket puts her in this'

3.00 Kelso - Yala Enki: 'Heavy ground is right up his street'

We know she likes Kempton because she was beaten just a length here on debut over 6f. That last outing was over a mile and she looks tailor-made for this distance.

Smart Call was plying her trade in Group 1 and 2 races last season so Sir Michael Stoute is really dropping her in class today.

She was far from disgraced at the top level too, especially when finishing a close-up fourth at Deauville after meeting trouble in running.

Stoute is dropping her back in distance today but she was just out of the places in the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes over a mile at Royal Ascot so it could be a smart move.

YALA ENKI won Kelso’s 3.00 12 months ago and can go close again off 6lb higher in the weights.

He was last seen looking slightly out of his depth in the Ultima Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. It was far from a poor run to finish sixth of the 18 runners and he kept going after trying to make all.

He has more chance of pulling off those tactics this time and — like most Venetia Williams runners — heavy ground is right up his street. He earlier lagged up in bottomless conditions at Haydock over a similar distance to today’s and he’ll get similar going today.

Chic Name ran well in the Cross Country Chase at the Festival last time. He just found the extreme trip of that contest a bit much and faded in the closing stages. Today’s shorter trip and easier track boosts his chances.
