RETURNING ANGEL

Clive Cox aiming Harry Angel at York comeback

Exciting sprinter Harry Angel, a two-time Group 1 winner in 2017, is being targeted at York's Dante meeting for his seasonal reappearance in the Duke Of York Stakes.

CLIVE COX has lined up the Duke Of York Stakes as a likely starting point for Harry Angel's four-year-old campaign on May 16.

Cox is delighted with Godolphin for keeping the exciting sprinter in training after an excellent three-year-old campaign and the first half of his season is being built towards a run in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Harry Angel beat his elders to claim successive Group 1 contests in 2017 in the July Cup at Newmarket and the Sprint Cup at Haydock.

The Lambourn-based trainer is keen to get a run into Harry Angel before Royal Ascot and York's Dante has been chosen as an appropriate starting point.

"He's very well. He's wintered very well indeed. He's a stronger horse than he was last year, which is very exciting," the trainer told At The Races.

"For the three-year-olds it's tough in any generation, so to have another winter on him has done him the world of good.

"Obviously Royal Ascot will be the plan and hopefully his prep race will be the Duke of York. He'll have a penalty there, but it's a chance to have a run before Royal Ascot and then obviously there's the Group 1 Pattern, as we had last year.
