Horse racing tips: Newbury, Ayr, Bath and Southwell – Steve Mullen’s betting preview for the racing this Friday, April 20

Steve Mullen guides you through Friday's racing at Newbury, Ayr, Bath and Southwell

NEWBURY

WELL DONE FOX was a relatively expensive purchase and he is bred for speed so this 5f should be ideal at this early stage of his career.

Richard Hannon has a solid record with horses like this and he should know his job.

The betting will be a good guide to the others but Gerald Mosse’s mount Glory Fighter should also know his job on debut.

TALLOW caught the eye when winning two of her three starts late last season.

She was impressive enough when scoring over 6f at Doncaster and showed a liking for this trip when winning over it at Southwell. She’ll want further in time but looks set for a good season.

John Gosden has a strong record in this race and his LAH TI DAR looks the one to beat this time.

She comes from a family that does well over middle distances and she’s closely related to the smart So Mi Dar.

White Light looks a nice prospect and she should have no issue in seeing out this distance.

GLOBAL APPLAUSE has dropped right down the weights and is much better off with Tomily who beat him at Doncaster last time out.

He met trouble in running there before finishing well. He already looked well handicapped and can take advantage of that mark here.

4.05

LOOK MY WAY is fit from hurdling and was far from disgraced when eighth in the Fred Winter at the Cheltenham Festival last time out.

His last outing on the Flat saw him saunter to victory at Ffos Las. This is a tougher contest and he’s 11lb higher but is on the upgrade over marathon distances.

BARTHOLOMEU DIAS blew away the cobwebs with a 13-length win at Wolverhampton last time out.

That was his comeback from eight months off having created a good impression as a two-year-old.

He was a close fourth in the Listed Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot so should be good enough in this company.

5.05

Roger Varian knows what he’s doing with two-year-olds and his CONTRIVE gets the nod in a wide open contest.

She is bred for this trip and beyond and the yard has made a decent start to the season. Solar Gold is nicely bred and one to watch in the betting.
