KINGS SHIELD is unbeaten in two starts and has looked better than a handicapper.

He had several subsequent winners behind when making a successful debut at Newcastle in November and he was well on top at the line when scoring at Kempton three weeks ago.

There’s no doubt he sets a lofty standard.

Dream Warrior disappointed on the all-weather at Lingfield a couple of weeks ago. He only scrambled home in an uncompetitive French maiden last year and has a fair bit to prove.

Vintager will struggle to give weight to less exposed rivals and Merlin Magic probably wants further.

I’ve no doubt Crystal Ocean will end up being the best of these but I can’t get excited about backing him first time out with most of Sir Michael Stoute’s team seemingly needing a run.

He was runner-up in last season’s St Leger so today’s trip is also likely to be on the short side as well.

Morando is interesting on his first run for Andrew Balding given his excellent record when fresh.

I was tempted to chance Almodovar. He missed last season but is a player on some of his 2016 form and he has won first time out.

A few stars have been born in the Bet365 Classic Trial and I reckon another will rise year.

SEVENNA STAR might be flattered by his 14-length romp at Windsor a couple of weeks ago but it was still the performance of a smart prospect.

His form last year was decent enough and he was always likely to improve this season.

Chilean was sixth behind Saxon Warrior in the Racing Post Trophy before landing a French Group 3. He might need deep ground.

I can’t imagine Naas winner Hunting Horn is too far up Aidan O’Brien’s Derby pecking order.

Lincoln winner ADDEYBB should take the jump up to Group 2 level in his stride.

William Haggas’ ace was super impressive at Doncaster and his fitness edge over Here Comes When gives him a great chance.

Here Comes When caused a shock when beating Ribchester in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes last season. That came on dreadful ground so it would be in his favour if the rain arrived.

He won first time out last season so looks the main danger.

Stormy Antarctic is also suited by soft ground. He won in France last time and must be in with a shout.
