VERDICT:

ORDER OF ST GEORGE can regain his Ascot Gold Cup crown and maintain the awesome record of Aidan O’Brien in the race.

It’s a must to have won one of your past three races so we can quickly overlook Max Dynamite, Scotland, Sheikhazayedroad and Desert Skyline who are winless recently.

Finishing out of the places last time isn’t a good idea either so we can lose outsider Mount Moriah.

The four horses that remain — Order Of St George, Torcedor, Vazirabad and Stradivarius — all have plenty of trends pluses.

They all have a Group race win and a victory over 2m, which are both very important. The quartet also won last time out. We will concentrate on the trio that have already won a Group 1 as that’s been a strong pointer. That means Torcedor falls by the wayside.

The other three are all good enough to win a Gold Cup but only ORDER OF ST GEORGE has the incredible record of the O’Brien stable behind him.

The master of Ballydoyle has won this race seven times in the past 12 years including with Ryan Moore’s mount two years ago.

He was beaten in a ding-dong by Big Orange last year and can see off Stradivarius who still has to prove his stamina. The ground is likely to be too fast for the excellent French raider Vazirabad.
