Royal Ascot 2018: Signora Cabello causes 25-1 upset in Queen Mary Stakes
John Quinn's filly came out on top in a thrilling three-way finish to the Group 2
FOR the second day running there was a shock result in the opener at Royal Ascot as Signora Cabello won the Queen Mary at 25-1.
The John Quinn-trained filly had won her last two starts, including a Listed race at York, but was largely unfancied by punters.
The two-year-old raced prominently throughout under Oisin Murphy, and as the field entered the final two furlongs there were at least 12 runners still in with a chance.
The 5-1 second favourite Shades Of Blue briefly hit the front at the furlong pole, but Murphy soon drove Signora Cabello into a narrow lead.
Gossamer Wings was the last to have a crack at the winner, but she couldn't get past and was a short-head behind at the line.
Shades Of Blue was a close third, but the American-trained favourite Chelsea Cloisters was a disappointing 11th under Frankie Dettori having fluffed the start.

Quinn was surprised by Signora Cabello's starting price, but not by her performance.
He said: "She was a huge price. When she won at York she was well on top at the line.
"She is very laid back at home, but she does help you.
"Even when Her Majesty was coming in and the band struck up she kept walking round and it never bothered her.

"She has a very good mind and she has got plenty of ability.
"We thought she would finish in the six.
"There were nice fillies and well-bred fillies and fillies that had won all over Europe, so the form was hard to put together.
"We felt she was in good nick and she did the rest."
