Royal Ascot 2018: Kew Gardens blooms in Queen’s Vase for Aidan O’Brien

Talented three-year-old leads home an O'Brien-trained 1-2-3 in the Group 2 race

KEW Gardens finally flowered in the Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot when winning easily under Ryan Moore.

The colt has failed to deliver so far this season but was far too good for his rivals in the Group 2 over a mile and six furlongs.

The Aidan O'Brien-trained colt was held up off the pace by Moore as his stablemate Nelson set a solid early gallop.

Frankie Dettori looked likely to go close around two furlongs out aboard Stream Of Stars, but he was left behind by Kew Gardens who finished with a rattle down the outside.

The son of Galileo quickly opened up a wide margin on his rivals and was a dominant four and a half length winner at the line.

He led home stable companions Southern France, who finished strongly from the tail of the field, and Nelson.

Kew Gardens is now the 5-1 joint favourite for the St Leger in September, and O'Brien said the Classic would come under consideration.

He said: "We always thought he'd stay. He was a little bit disappointing in Epsom (Derby), but we've been very happy since then.

"He can go back to the Irish Derby or he can have a little break and be trained for the Leger, he's a lot of options.

"The Leger is a long way away, but in the autumn that would be a lovely race for him.";
