Newmarket

HAPPY ODYSSEY doesn’t have the greatest draw but she showed enough when an encouraging second on debut at Lingfield to win this. She boxed on well in the closing stages so the step up from the minimum trip should bring improvement.
2.10
ASHINGTON has been knocking on the door and should appreciate the step up from 1m2f today. He finished well when second at Leicester last month and did the same again at Doncaster last time. He wouldn’t have to find a lot more to strike.
2.40
SPRING ROMANCE’s form figures speak for themselves and he has every chance of landing a fifth win in six outings. He is now 29lb higher than at the start of that run but he’s defied the handicapper each time and can do so again over his best distance.
ROYAL NAVY Merchant Navy clings on in photo-finish to win thrilling Diamond Jubilee Stakes
3.15
Racing Country is dropping in class but he was poor in Meydan and has been gelded since coming back to Newmarket. It’s a positive that he’s being kept on the go but he could fall short against HATEEL who showed lots of promise on her debut here in November. She should be capable of building on that.

RESTIVE SPIRIT wasn’t asked too many questions when beaten a length on his debut at Goodwood last time. He ran on strongly in the closing stages and is clearly capable of a lot better. He gets quicker ground today that could also suit.

BURGUILLOS dropped back from middle distances to run a good race over 6f at Newmarket last time out. As you might expect, he finished strongly and the extra furlong here should suit. He has had a little drop down the weights too.

BACACARAT has been building up to a win after a couple of consistent efforts since delving into handicaps. He finished well over this mile at Haydock last time and might have won had he started his run earlier. It wouldn’t take much more to win.
5.30
JASHMA ran a lot better than sixth place suggests at Sandown last time out. He was finishing well before having the door firmly slammed shut entering the final 2f. That made all the difference but, with Richard Hughes’ horses in good nick, he can make up for the disappointment.
