Monday racing tips: Andy Ayres picks out his best bet for today’s racing while updating us on all the latest gossip from the tracks this weekend and his thoughts on the return of Enable

Don't miss out on all the latest talk from the tracks as Andy Ayres discusses Enable, some antepost thoughts for the Cambridgeshire and Oisin Murphy

WASN’T it fantastic to see Enable bolt-up in the September Stakes at Kempton Park on Saturday.

This track gets plenty of stick, but it’s the circuit where most London-based racegoers cut their teeth and they turned out in force – despite a rail strike – to see John Gosden’s wonder-filly.

The late market told you what was expected – Enable was hammered in to 8-15, having been around evens at one point – and from the moment she skipped to post there was no doubt about the outcome.

She was given a proper welcome back into the winners’ enclosure and if Frankie Dettori had smiled any wider he’d have swallowed his ears.

He didn’t attempt a flying dismount though – at 47 they have to be rationed – and had plans to fly up to Haydock for the Sprint Cup grounded due to inclement weather.

Red-hot Oisin Murphy won that pot on The Tin Man and has undoubtedly been the riding sensation of summer 2018.

He’s winning Group 1s for fun at the moment and if gallop reports are any guide should grab another with super-talented Roaring Lion in the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on Saturday.

Roger Varian’s Prince Eiji cost a wallet-bashing 2.6million guineas as a yearling, but did look a bit useful when making a winning start to his career in a hot 7f maiden at Ascot on Friday.

Varian, who pretty much watched this from the car park before jetting off to the Keeneland Sales, is eyeing a step into Group races with this tough-looking colt and he can hold his own at that level.

The real star at Ascot was Patrick Chamings’ What A Welcome, who was racking-up win number seven from his last eight starts when finishing fast and late to grab the 1m4f handicap.

This gelding wouldn’t win any prizes in the paddock – he looks like two planks of wood nailed together and never fails to sweat – but he knows where the winning post is and has been a real topper for his capable trainer.

Talking of underrated yards, David Menuisier is a class act who manages to fly under the radar.

He’s improved Danceteria by the bucket-load this season and I’ve heard from someone close to the team that they are more than hopeful about his chance of winning the Cambridgeshire at the end of the month.

Menuisier’s flyer is a general 16-1 chance at the moment and that could look a steal on the day.

Monday Magic

HINT OF GREY (8.45 Chelmsford) shaped well after a break at Kempton last time and will appreciate the slight step-up in trip.

There’s no more popular man in the game than Gary Moore and he can get on the scoresheet with HINT OF GREY (8.45) at Chelmsford tonight.

She was heavily backed when winning at Lingfield in May and ran another cracker when third after an 11-week break at Kempton last time.

That will have put her cherry-ripe for this race and it’s a big plus to see Adam Kirby retain the ride.
