Best horse racing tips: Sun Racing’s top picks for today’s racing at Ayr, Newbury, Chelmsford, Catterick, Newmarket and Wolverhampton
Don't miss out on Sun Racing's best bet and each-way shot at all of today's meetings
AYR and Newbury take centre stage on a busy Saturday afternoon, with plenty of quality action in store.
We've had our heads in the formbook and picked out our best bets across the day.
Ayr
Best bet
3.50 Teruntum Star - Goes well on easy ground and often produces his best form in the autumn. Excused latest defeat as he was returning from a break, and likely to be cherry-ripe for this given yard's brilliant record in the race.
Each-way
2.00 Fire Brigade - Has won on heavy ground in the past and has been holding his form well this season. Now just 1lb above his last winning mark.
DEWHURST DATE Doncaster winner Sangarius set for Group 1 test as he puts Classic credentials on the line
Newbury
Best bet
1.45 Beringer - Strong traveller who was unsuited by easy ground at Goodwood last time. Has conditions to suit today and will have a strong pace to aim at, while this galloping track will be to his liking.
Each-way
2.20 Extra Elusive - Has looked a smart horse in the making this season and was a very impressive winner at Kempton last time. Well worth this step up in class.
Chelmsford
Best bet
2.15 Maaward - Only scrambled home by a head when a short-priced favourite last time, but the front two pulled a mile clear of the rest. Looks a smart type and he can bring up the hat-trick.
Each-way
3.25 Marnie James - Has plenty of rock-solid form to his name this season. Still relatively lightly-raced and open to further progress for underrated trainer.
LATEST IN HORSE RACING
Catterick
Best bet
4.45 Preacher Man - Pulled clear with the winner when second on his return from a lay-off earlier this month. Found a golden opportunity to open his account here.
Each-way
5.20 Meshardal - Goes well at this track and has shaped as though he is worth a try at 7f of late. Has now slipped to a dangerous mark.
Newmarket
Best bet
5.00 Hameem - Won with authority at Brighton last time out. Step back up to 1m4f no issue and the penny appears to have dropped with her.
Each-way
5.35 Captain Colby - Won the Portland two years ago off 10lb higher and didn't run too badly at Thirsk last time. Eased in class and has winning form at this track.
Wolverhampton
Best bet
8.15 Felix The Poet - Ran with promise when fourth in a strong-looking maiden at Ascot on his debut. This is a much easier race, so he should take plenty of stopping.
Each-way
7.45 Sanam - Didn't give his true running when well-held at Lingfield last time. Combination of a drop in class and trip and the addition of cheekpieces should see him go close.
