TAKE the Mick in the BetVictor Gold Cup at Cheltenham (2.25).

Former England football star Mick Channon is better known as a Flat trainer but he has a potential chasing star in MISTER WHITAKER.

The six-year-old has long been tipped for the top and took giant strides in his first season over fences.

He started with a win over this trip at Carlisle and ended it with victory in the Close Brothers Novice Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.

He came back from eight months off to strike again at the Cumbrian track last time, running away with a Listed race despite Channon having left plenty to work on.

That victory should leave him spot on for this and we know he likes today's course and distance.

The handicapper has hiked him 15lb since that Festival victory but he’s improving and can take it in his stride.

Rather Be had a right ding-dong with Mister Whitaker in that Close Brothers contest with a head separating them at the line.

That was by far his best effort of the season and he’s another with a bright future. He is slightly better off at the weights and has been well supported all week in the betting market.

Although he was nailed on the line at the Festival he sees out this distance well.

Wizard's magic tips

LUCKY 15: SKIDOOSH (12.30 Wetherby), SALATEEN (1.35 Lingfield), MISTER WHITAKER (2.25 Cheltenham), ADDEYBB (2.45 Lingfield)

Guitar Pete looks the pick of the big prices.

He has already won one of these “Gold Cups” when taking the Caspian Caviar version last season.

He ran another good race at Cheltenham when sixth in the Plate and has come down the weights, which gives him a chance of hitting the frame at least.

Baron Alco is another who comes into the reckoning. He came back from 19 months off to finish a close second at Chepstow last time out.

That was a good run and he relishes this distance as he showed when finishing second in the Plate here last season.

He is off the same mark as that here and won’t be far away for Team Moore.
