Canadian UFC star Rory MacDonald reveals his walkout shame

UFC Ottawa main event star Rory MacDonald lifts the lid on his worst walkout song ever... and he didn’t even pick it!

CANADIAN welterweight contender Rory MacDonald likes to change up his walkout music for each fight, but on one notable occasion things didn't quite go according to plan.

Ahead of his UFC 133 bout with Mike Pyle, MacDonald got the call from backstage to make the walk to the Octagon, but the music that heralded his arrival into the arena wasn't quite what he'd hoped for.

And when asked during the UFC Dublin Q&A last year to pick his worst ever walkout song, MacDonald needed no thinking time whatsoever to remember the track that left ‘The Red King’ red-faced.

“Worst walkout song I’ve had was MC Hammer – “’You Can’t Touch This’,” he said, adamantly, much to the amusement of the crowd.

When asked why on earth he’d choose such a track, the UFC's No 1 welterweight contender retold his story.

“I didn’t choose it!” he smiled.

“Someone had my old phone number and the UFC contacted that number for entrance music and he pretended to be me and gave that as my entrance!”

“It doesn’t make a difference. Entrance music doesn’t make a difference. I’ve come out to cool songs and then got my ass kicked.

“And then that fight in particular I went out and knocked the guy out in the first round, so it doesn’t make a difference.”

With MacDonald looking to get back into the win column after his epic welterweight championship battle with Robbie Lawler last year ended in a late TKO defeat, maybe a return to a cheesy 90s rap entrance could be just the ticket when he steps back in the Octagon in Ottawa this weekend.

He faces fellow top contender Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson in a tricky matchup and, while the Canadian star can't pick his opponents, you can bet he’ll make darned sure he’s picking his entrance music.

It makes you wonder if he’s ever discussed it with his management team. He used to be managed by a company in the States called Alchemist Management.

The CEO of that company? MC Hammer.
