Aussie Michael Schiavello’s commentary on Jordan ‘Big Swinging’ Johnson leaves fans in stitches
Fighter's innuendo-laced nickname produces a host of amusing commentary moments during RFA 39 event in Indiana
AUSTRALIAN commentator Michael Schiavello has long been renowned within the sport as one of the most colourful commentators in the sport of mixed martial arts.
Nicknamed'The Voice', Schiavello's commentary style and catchphrase: "It's goodnight Irene!" have marked him out as one of the most distinctive voices in the sport.
And the Aussie showcased that fact in the recent Resurrection Fighting Alliance bout between Jordan Johnson and Shaun Asher at the RFA 39 event in Indiana at the weekend.
Schiavello made full use of Johnson's risque nickname of 'Big Swinging' during the fight commentary, which produced some memorable lines during Johnson's submission win.
Johnson extended his perfect professional record to 5-0 with that win, but all the talk after the fight was about Schiavello's commentary.
Aussie play-by-play man Schiavello and former UFC champion Pat Miletich aren't new to dealing with fighters whose names stray towards the realm of innuendo, as dedicated fans of MMA will know.
They'll remember Schiavello's commentaries of fellow former RFA bantamweight fighter Danny Mainus, whose name produced some memorable moments in the commentary box during his contests.
