Conor McGregor saves his local Straight Blast Gym from closing by donating cash after coronavirus financial turmoil

CONOR McGREGOR has generously saved his local gym from closing down due to the financial repercussions of coronavirus by donating some much-needed cash.

Straight Blast Gym Portarlington owner Philip Mulpeter was forced to close his gym’s doors after being hit hard by the pandemic, citing mounting bills are the reason.

But McGregor, 32, moved quickly to save his old gym after Mulpeter - dubbed 'The Honey Badger - revealed the sad news on Friday.

It read: "From the lowest low to the highest high.

"WE ARE NOT CLOSING!!

"Our team-mate and friend @thenotoriousmma has decided to help us out and keep the gym running.

"We will be eternally grateful.

"To everyone that messaged and got in touch with us to show your support, thank you all so much.

"See you all on the mats."

McGregor replied to the post writing, "Let’s go SBG Portarlington!", alongside a heart emoji.

And hoards of fans and fighters were quick to thank McGregor for his selfless deed.

Former MMA star-turned-policitian, Paddy Holohan, also replied to the post - liked nearly 3,000 times already.

Holohan wrote: "The real ones never forget. Delighted to read that."

Another MMA ace, Cian Cowley, added: "Strength through loyalty."

MMA star Leah McCourt wrote 'amazing', with two fire emojis.

McGregor is preparing to return to the octagon next month with his rematch against Dustin Poirier.

And the UFC have amped up the hype with a spine-tingling promotional video.

McGregor and Poirier will face off at UFC 257 on January 23.
