UFC 206: Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis comes in three pounds over for interim title clash
Former UFC lightweight champion misses weight by three pounds for main event bout with Max Holloway, who can still capture interim championship gold on Saturday night
THE drama surrounding is showing no sign of abating with the latest twist to a turbulent path to fight night coming on weigh-in day on Friday.
The main event bout features an interim featherweight title fight between Max Holloway and Anthony 'Showtime' Pettis.
Holloway hit the 145lb limit on the button when he took to the scale at Friday's weigh-ins in Toronto, but dramatically his opponent didn't.
Pettis tipped the scales at 148lbs, three pounds over championship weight.
The fight will still take place as the main event on Saturday night, but Pettis will surrender 20% of his fight purse to Holloway.
And by missing weight the Milwaukee native has also lost his chance to capture UFC gold in Toronto, even if he wins the bout.
For Holloway, however, it's business as usual. US-based reporter Ariel Helwani received confirmation the Hawaiian will still become the UFC interim featherweight champion if he prevails on Saturday night.
Pettis wasn't the only fighter on the card to suffer issues with the scales, with Canadian Valerie Letourneau and Russian Rustam Khabilov both also missing weight for their respective bouts.
The action kicks off live on BT Sport 3 on Saturday night from 1am, with the early prelims kicking off on UFC Fight Pass from 11:30pm.
